We love Jungle Mama Natural products so much for so many reasons. They work well, smell great, are all natural and organic, and are safe to use! We stock a bunch of their products at our surf shop, so come by and try them out for yourself.
Why Using Traditional Sunscreen is Risky
When people used to tell me that my traditional sunscreen could be dangerous I used to ignore them. My logic was that no one has ever gotten skin cancer from sun screen, they got cancer from not wearing sunscreen! But then, fortunately, I started doing my research.
Firstly, it’s important to take into consideration that sun exposure itself is not the cause of skin diseases. Instead, skin damage is caused by prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays. When people wear sun screen they tend to think they are immune to the sun’s harmful rays, and therefore stay out for longer periods of time in extreme conditions. In these cases, people also tend to reapply sunscreen often. Each time they do, they increase their absorption of the harmful chemicals in these products.
The effects of overexposure to the sun are immediately evident, whether it’s a mild sun burn causing some redness or a second-degree sunburn with blisters (ouch!). Logically, this makes us scared of the sun and love the sunscreen which is thought to be protecting us. However, the chemicals in traditional sunscreen can be just as harmful, even if they’re not as immediately visible and shocking as a bad sun burn.
Chemical sunscreens are loaded with penetration enhancers, which help the lotions stick to us. This means ingredients like retinyl palmitate, which have been shown to speed up the growth of cancerous cells, can sink deep into our skin tissues. The most common chemical ingredient found in sunscreen, oxybenzone, has been linked to hormonal disruptions, especially in teenage boys.
Jungle Mama is Here to Help!
The solution is simple. Limit sun exposure by covering your skin with clothing and a hat, and stay in the shade as much as possible. For prolonged exposure protect yourself with natural, organic products like Jungle Mama Naturals.
